Supporting the future of energy storage with high-capacity power transformers
The expansion of large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) plays an increasingly important role in stabilizing power grids and enabling the integration of renewable energy sources across Europe. In line with this trend, two high-capacity power transformers were recently delivered for a major energy storage project in Germany.
Description
These transformers, with capacity of 110 MVA and operating at voltages of 110 / 33 / 10 kV are designed to meet the specific requirements of battery storage applications. Reliable interfacing with power conversion systems is essential in these applications. Their robust design and high-voltage capabilities ensure stable and efficient operation within complex grid environments.
Following installation, on-site service teams supported the commissioning phase, ensuring critical processes such as oil filling and system preparation were carried out smoothly and according to plan. This coordinated approach enabled a seamless transition into the next stages of the project.
The successful delivery underscores the increasing demand for reliable, high-performance infrastructure to support energy storage solutions. As Europe accelerates its energy transition, these projects demonstrate the essential role of advanced transformer technology in enabling a more flexible, resilient, and sustainable power system.
